A crowd of over 100 was royally
entertained at our September Musicale, Fun, Fantasy,
and Fairies!, held Sunday, September 14, at Harris Bell Hall.
After Libby Weed set the stage by providing a summary of
the first act of Iolanthe, the entire group, cast and audience,
joined in with a sing-along of Strephon's a member
of Parliament,
led by Eva Laskaris and other cast members.
Then David Fontenot, Lisa Alexander, Arthur DiBianca, Andy
Fleming, June Julian, Jay Young, and Patricia Combs delighted
the audience with four lovely numbers from the second act
of Iolanthe, which will be our summer 2009 production.
A few tastes of the witty dialogue along with the tuneful
music had us all looking forward to next summer. Martha
Dudgeon provided the accompaniment.
Part II of the program featured whimsical selections from
various composers, from Claude Debussy through Marc Blitzstein.
Eva, Jay, June, Kathryn Saar, Andy, Patricia, and Lisa
all provided entertainment that had the audience near tears
at some points and shaking with laughter at others.
As is our custom, we joined together in a chorus of Hail,
Poetry before enjoying a repast of tasty goodies and cool
drinks provided by Society members attending.
We are thankful to Abby Gorton and Westminster Manor for
providing us the space for this enchanting musicale, and
we are pleased that quite a number of residents joined
us for the festivities. |
