Summer 2008 Production
Record audiences set sail for summer fun in Austin with a band of tenderhearted pirates, a modern Major-General, a bevy of Victorian maidens, and a bunch of bumbling British bobbies - the Summer 2008 Production of
The Pirates Of Penzance.

Artistic Director Ralph MacPhail, Jr. and Musical Director Jeffrey Jones Ragona led their musical mateys in creating an unforgettable version of this classic musical comedy.

Perf
ormances were held at the Forrest Kline Performing Arts Center at Crockett High School from June 19th through 29th. Yo ho ho, the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Austin thanks all the performers, the Gillman Light Opera Orchestra, sponsors, and Society members for making this years show a treasure to behold.

The Pirates Of Penzance Synopsis:
Apprenticed as a child to a band of tenderhearted, orphaned pirates, Frederic completes his 21st year of his indentures and decides to return to respectable society. He meets, Mabel, the youngest of General Stanley's daughters, and falls in love.

But by a twist of fate, it turns out that he was born on February 29 in leap year, and he remains apprenticed to the pirates until his 21st birthday.

By the end of the opera, the pirates, a Major General who knows nothing of military strategy, his large family of beautiful but unwed daughters, and the timid constabulary all contribute to a cacophony that can be silenced only by Queen Victoria's name.
